NEA Introduction
Do Now
Monday 8 September
- Features popular and emerging artists, interviews, news about the rap industry, and sometimes even addresses the social issues within the genre.
- Uses fashion and imagery to represent hip-hop's urban and cultural aesthetics, featuring artists in styles that resonate with the audience.
- Aims to be relatable and authentic, speaking the language of the "hip-hop generation" and often using informal terms and imagery.
- Reaches the audience through the technologies they use, such as online videos and music channels, which can be used for advertising.
Brief:
The target audience is for 16–24-year-old males. It is a music magazine of the rap and hip-hop genre. The name of the magazine is VER$E and the slogan is “Unmasked. Unedited. Uncensored.” The demographic is mostly males but also females who are interested in the genre. They are associated with hip-hop and their culture, as well as the lifestyle and fashion however the main cover star of the magazine is going against the racial stereotypes of the genre. I aim to reach this through the conventions under the genre and the connotations behind each choice. The colour palette of being black with pops of red to appeal and draw attention is used in the main cover line and masthead. The article will include a story from the featured artist on the cover line named “EMBEE” about their life growing up and taking this career path as a white rapper. I plan to use the stereotypes of the hip hop genre within fashion and lifestyle, but with a white cover star to represent the anti-stereotypes.
